New BCG report on sustainability shows that Danish companies belong to the world elite.
Nordic companies are the best in the world at translating sustainability into business strategy and value creation. Danish companies are in second place – beaten only by Finland, according to BCG’s new report “Total Societal Value: Nordic companies are leading the way”.
Total Societal Value (TSI) refers to a company’s total positive and negative impact on the economy, society and the environment. And while US companies take the bottom place in the report, Nordic companies are at the top.
According to BCG, the strong performance of the Nordic companies is due to three key factors:
- Nordic investors focus on responsible investments and make demands on sustainability
- The authorities are skilled in creating strong incentives that require sustainable action
- Strong cultural and public pressure necessitates investment in sustainability if one wants a credible and strong brand
If you zoom in on the Nordic companies, it is especially consumer brands that are doing well, while there is room for improvement among companies in the financial and health sectors.
